Description

Vol. 1 has added t.p., engr.: Englands topographer or The English counties delineated, by Thomas Moule. London: Geo Virtue... 1838.

This work previously appeared in parts, from 1830-1836, the maps were drawn and engraved by James Bingley, John Dower and W. Schmollinger.

Many of the maps have been revised by the addition of railways, etc. since the previous edition, but the most curious feature is that the names of the engravers on some of the maps have been changed. The name "James Bingley" on the maps of Oxfordshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, for example, has been changed to "W. Schmollinger" while on the maps of Surrey and Hertfordshire the name "W. Schmollinger" has been replaced by "James Bingley".--Whitaker: The Harold Whitaker Collection... Univ. of Leeds, 1947, p. 84.
