Description
Five vols. with the text in French, and vol. 6 with the text in Latin.
A less known work and far more uncommon than the Blaeu's atlas. Jansson and Blaeu were competitors at the time when Holland was pre-eminent as the greatest map-producing centre for the entire world. At times Jansson copied Blaeu, sometimes Blaeu copied Jansson, each striving to be first in the field with the latest and most up-to-date maps.--Whitaker: The Harold Whitaker Collection... Univ. of Leeds, 1947, p. 132.
Contents: vol.1. Scandinavia, Russia, and Germany, 1656. -- vol.2. France, Switzerland, and the Low Countries, [n.d.]. -- vol.3. Spain, Italy, Greece, Asia, Africa, and America, [n.d.]. -- vol.4. England and Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, 1647. -- vol.5. Maritime world, 1657. -- vol.6. Joannis Janssoni Novus Atlas, sive Theatrum orbis terrarum: in quo orbis antiquus, seu geographia vetus, sacra & profana exhibetur. Tomus sextus. Amstelodami, apud Ioannem ianssonium, [n.d.].
