Description

An abridgement of: Speed, John. The theatre of the empire of Great Britaine, the text of which is mainly based on: Camden, William. Britannia.

In the latter part some of the maps show that they have been printed from older, worn or damaged plates, but the text is still the identical printing of the third edition of those dated 1627. Cf. Whitaker: The Harold Whitaker Collection... Univ. of Leeds, 1947, p. 26.

Most maps were engraved by Pieter van den Keere.
