Description

This is the sixth and last Latin edition of the Britannia published by Camden himself and the first with county maps. The maps are engraved from the surveys of Christopher Saxton, John Norden and George Owen, by William Hole and William Kip. The text in full was reprinted in Latin, French, German, Dutch or Spanish, by Blaeu from 1645 and by Jansson from 1646 in the respective volumes (which dealt with the English counties) or their atlases. Cf. Whitaker: The Harold Whitaker Collection... Univ. of Leeds, 1947, p. 18.

The maps are engraved from the surveys of Christopher Saxton, John Norden and George Owen, by William Hole and William Kip.

The first word of the title is enclosed in a woodcut frame.

With an additional title page, engraved, signed: Gulielmus Hole sculpsit.

Variant: title page line 9 has "Tabulis" rather than "Chartis".
