Photocopy of diary (1914); Typescript diary (1914-1915); Typescript recollections, including the sinking of the Channel Steamer 'The Queen'; Photocopy of typescript of diary kept while POW (Prisoner of War) in Moscow, 1919-1920; Manuscript copy of Victoria Cross citation from London Gazette (23 June 1915); Typed transcript of an interview recorded with Peter Liddle in 1971 (pre-war Sandhurst cadet, serving in Ireland; to France Aug 1914, actions at Mons Canal, Douai and Le Cateau; Christmas 1914 ordered to front line to stop troops fraternising, which he did after meeting a German officer in No Man's Land to discuss the matter and agreeing that the war should continue; Ypres, fighting at Hill 60, where won VC on 20 April 1915).
Biography or history
Roupell, George Rowland Patrick. Captain, 1st Battalion, East Surrey Regiment, later General Staff Officer Grade II on the Divisional Staff. Served in North Russia and held POW (Prisoner of War) in Moscow, 1919-1920. Awarded the VC (Victoria Cross) and later Brigadier.
