The letter referred to is "A letter from General Ludlow to Dr. Hollingworth". The preface is signed: Edmund Ludlow. The author was almost certainly not Edmund Ludlow (1617?-1692) but a republican pamphleteer who wrote under the name General Ludlow, Lieut. general Ludlow, and Major-general Ludlow (cf. articles on Richard Hollingworth and Edmund Ludlow, DNB; also entries under Edmund Ludlow, pseud. in NUC).


"The epistle dedicatory" signed: Richard Hollingworth.
