Biography or history
Luke, Frederick (b 1895) . Driver, RFA (Royal Field Artillery), serving on the Western Front, 1914-1918; Victoria Cross; Enlisted 1913 ; Describes the composition of a Howitzer Battery; To France Aug 22nd 1914 and immediately into action at Mons; Retreated to Le Cateau and went into action describing vividly, the events which gained him the VC which was presented to him by the King, in the field, at Locon, near Bethune, on Dec 1st 1914; In 1920 when he went to Buckingham Palace to be presented to the King, the latter remembered him from 1914; Following the original investiture saw further action particularly in the Somme area, Corbie, Guillemont, Ginchy, Flers and Courcelette.
