Description
Colophon: Here ends Eikon basilike, the pourtraicture of His Sacred Majestie in his solitudes and sufferings, printed by me Alexander Moring at the De la More Press, 29 Regent Street, in the county of London, in the months of April and May MDCCCCIII.
Added engraved series title, and second half title.
Attributed to Charles I; also to John Gauden.
The book was probably handed by the King to the Rev. Edward Symmons, by whom it was taken to Richard Royston, who had it printed by William Dugard. p. iii.
Reprint of an advance copy of the first edition with imprint: London: Printed for R. Royston..., 1648 (omitted from the regular issue). This rare t.p. is reproduced and the old spelling preserved throughout.
'This issue of "Eikon Basilike..." is strictly limited to 290 copies on hand-made paper, and 10 on vellum ... [etc.]'.
