"The edition is commonly known as 'Toland's', but he was not the editor. He remarked elsewhere that he would have omitted several of the works."--Coleridge. John Toland did write the life of Milton printed in Volume 1, which is signed and dated: I.T. Sept. 3. 1698.


In three volumes, each with separate title page, variously dated from 1694 to 1698. General title-page in volume 1 is printed in red and black. Volume 3 has title: Joannis Miltoni Opera omnia Latina.


Actual place of publication from Wing(2). Internal title pages in volumes 1 and 2 are dated 1694.


Vol. 1 with half-title (portrait on verso) reading "Miltons historical and political works". With engraved frontispiece portrait of Milton. Volumes 1 and 2 have continuous pagination and signatures. Many irregularities in pagination.
