Description
Middleton's 'Introductory discourse to a larger work' was published in 1747, the larger work referred to being his 'Free inquiry into the miraculous powers which are supposed to have subsisted in the Christian Church from the earliest years', which appeared nearly two years later, giving rise to considerable controversy.
The book referred to in the preface is by Thomas Deacon.
