Description

Illustrations: numerous woodcuts in the text, including portrait of the author as the center of the title vignette, replacing the device of the Italian edition. Without the larger port. of Simeoni found on the verso of the t.p. in the Italian edition. The cuts, attributed by the Bibliothéque nationale to Georges Reverdy, were formerly attributed to Bernard Salomon. -- cf. Cartier, v. 1, p. 15-16. Most of the cuts depict monuments or medals but a few show statues and views, e.g. the house of Petrarch at Vaucluse.

La plupart des monuments rapportés dans ce livre sont évidemment faux ou modernes. -- Biographie universelle (Michaud) ancienne et moderne. Nouv. éd. Paris, 1854-65. t. 39, p. 365.

Shortened translation of the Italian edition of the same year.

Signatures: A-B⁴, a-r⁴, (r4 blank).
