Description
A reissue, apparently, of the edition of the Tractatus physicus published in 1682 (G. Wells and A. Swalle; Wing R1871) and the 1692 edition of the De arte mechanica (A. Swalle & T. Child; Wing, Supplement, R1869+). A general title-page replaces the original title to the Tractatus physicus, but the title-page to the De arte mechanica is retained. In this copy an irregular stub is all that remains of what was apparently a separate title-page to the Tractatus physicus (possible the original title, displaced, and used as a part-title in this edition). Pts. 2-4 of the Tractatus physicus have separate pagination and signatures from pt. 1, and a general half-title.
The De arte mechanica is a translation of Rohault's treatise Les méchaniques, published in his Oeuvres posthumes in 1682.
The numbering of the first series of plates is irregular (1-4, 9. 5-8, 10, 12), and the first, second and sixth plates of the second series are unnumbered).
Indexed in: Not in Wing.
Additional description
Wanting: plate 11 of the first series? With signature of William Blunden of New College, Oxford (matriculated 1704), on the title-page
