Revised from "An introduction of the eyght partes of speche" and "Institutio compendaria totius grammaticæ", which were revised and enlarged, possibly by Richard Cox and others, from Colet's "Æditio" and Lily's "Rudiments". Lily's name appears on the title-page of some later editions.
Elaborate woodcut borders on title-page. Part 2 has a colophon followed by a full page woodcut on verso.

Interleaved and extensively annotated throughout, both on the blank ff. and in margins, by a contemporary hand, probably that of the contemporary signature Thomas Rayment on the first (narrow) flyleaf. Double interleaf between pp.72-73 and pp.84-85 in Part 2. None in last gathering. Signature of Brent Gration-Maxfield, with pencilled note, on foot of page preceding title-page of Part 1, and also inscription by ball-point pen, 1955, on blank interleaf page facing p.[15] of Part 2 also red stamp at foot of both title-pages
