The leaf preceding the title-page carries a dedication: 'A la ecelsa, y serenissima magestad, de Doña Catarina de Bragança Infanta de Portugal, y Reyna de la Gran Bretaña, &c. Que Dios guarde con acrecentimientos de toda Felicidad Imaginàble, segun los mas humildes, los mas Entrañables Desseos, y Devociones De Don Diego Howel. En Londres 1662.'.


The second part, 'La perambulaciòn de España y de Portugal; en un discurso entre Carlos y Felipe' has a separate title-page, with the title in Spanish and English, and is printed with Spanish and English parallel texts on facing pages.


Pages [85]-[93] of the second part are unpaginated.

Additional description

Wanting [A]1 (leaf before English title the Spanish title is [A]3). On the verso of the leaf (unoriginal) which precedes the English title is pasted part of the engraved title to Howell's Epistolæ Hoelianæ , 1645 (Johnson, Engraved and etched English title-pages , Marshall, no.94), consisting of the portrait of Howell and the imprint. With the bookplate and label of Sir William Stirling-Maxwell, bart. (formerly Stirling), of Keir, whose initials and monogram are stamped on the covers. On the paste-down at the end is the armorial bookplate of Richard Ford, 1796-1858, critic and author of books on Spain. The plate bears his signature at the foot. On a flyleaf at the front are notes on the work in an unidentified hand (Richard Ford's?)
