Composed by severall authors' and 'An elegie-&-epistle consolatorie, against immoderate sorrow for th'immature decease of Sr. William Sidney', the latter here printed for the first time.
Some additional elegies by Joseph Hall and others are included at the end of the first item; 'Sundry funeral elegies' includes the first printing of Donne's 'Elegie on the untimely death of the incomparable Prince, Henry' (E1-2).
Many pages printed on recto only, the verso being blank except for coat of arms.
Prince Panaretus = Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales.
Indexed in: References: STC : 23578; Case 41(c), this copy as there described, i.e. differing from that in the Bibliotheca Landesiana.
Additional description
The first and second editions were entitled 'Lachrymae lachrymarum' as is apparently the case with other recorded copies, the title is cropped at the margin (and / or carelessly printed?), so that the true full title cannot be ascertained: bibliographies differ as to the correct form of the second word. Bookplate of R.A. Scott Macfie pasted inside front cover, with his signature on the front free end-paper and his note on a former owner, Sir Thomas M'Clure, on back paste-down, above book label of William M'Clure a bookseller's printed description of the Gaisford copy of this work also preserved on back paste-down
