Description

A mock letter prompted by the Preface attached by the bishop to his publication in 1712 of "Four sermons" delivered between 1692 and 1702. This Preface contained an attack on Harley's administration as liable to bring in the Pretender.

Mock advertisement follows p.14.

Half-title reads: Lord W****n's letter to the Lord Bishop of S. Asaph. Price two pence.

Generally attributed to Jonathan Swift, except by Woolley, who strongly questions that attribution. "Lord W*****n" is Lord Wharton. "The Lord Bp of S. Asaph" is William Fleetwood.

Indexed in: ESTC n010918; Teerink 585A, with normal spelling of "pence".
