Description
Published in English and French concurrently in 1686 as pt. 1 of the Travels, but no more parts were issued. "Le couronnement de Soleiman Troisième" had already appeared in Paris, 1671.
A reissue of the sheets of 1686, with a new printed title-page omitting the words "The first volume" and differing slightly in other respects. The original engraved title is retained with date 1686 unchanged. 'Directions... for placing the cuts' in uncorrected state.
Differences in the make-up of this issue are as follows: - In the first issue 4Y1-2 are conjugate leaves, paged 415-7, the verso of the second being blank (p.417 concludes 'The travels' and has an engraved ornament in the space below the last line of print); 4Y2 is followed by a quire of three leaves signed (*), carrying 'The index' (1r-3r; 3v is blank); and this is followed by an unsigned quire of two leaves carrying 'Directions...for placing the cuts' (X1v) and the part-title to 'The coronation' (X2r; X1r and X2v are blank). In this issue 4Y2 is markedly thinner than the preceding leaf and appears to be conjugate with a stub between 4X2 and 4Y1; the quire of three leaves carrying 'The index' is placed at the end of the volume, after 'The table'; and the folding of the unsigned sheet carrying 'Directions... for placing the cuts' and the part-title to 'The coronation' is reversed, so that the latter becomes X1r and the 'Directions' X2v.
