Originally written by James Wallace of Kirkwall and published by his son, James Wallace M.D., F.R.S., and republished as his own in the above edition of 1700, with omissions, additions and altered title. First published as 'A description of the isles of Orkney' (Edinburgh, 1693). The 'Essay' is by Sir Robert Sibbald (p. 148-182).
