Description
The additions to the 1704 edition comprise the following: Pp.373-77: "A short description of the great dukedom of Finland, and the lordship of Ingermanland". Pp.378-408: "An account of Livonia, with the manners, customs, and religion of its...inhabitants, and the chief occurrences... during the present war betwixt Muscovy, the King of Poland and the Swedes", by Carl Johann von Blomberg. Pp.409-16: "An account of a voyage of Charles XI. late King of Sweden, in the year, 1694. to the borders of Lapland, with the observations made by Mr. Andrew Spole, and Mr. John Bilberg, two of his mathematicians in the year, 1695. in Lapland, and some other of the most northern parts of Sweden...[etc]", a translation of Johan Bilberg's "Refractio solis inoccidui". Pp.1bis-22bis: "Olof Rudbecks the younger, Nora Samolad; or Lapland illustrated...Taken from the Latin original printed in 1701. at Upsal."
A different and fuller version of the text than Acton Cremer's translation of 1674; the translator is anonymous.
The engraved frontispiece title-page is a reduced copy of that in the 1674 folio edition.
Besides the frontispiece title-page and 2 other folding plates, there are many full-page and smaller in-text illustrations.
