Description
A pastoral romance, satirizing the courtiers of James I, written in imitation of the author's paternal uncle Sir Philip Sidney's The countesse of Pembrokes Arcadia, and dedicated to Susan Herbert, wife of Philip Herbert, 1st earl of Montgomery and 4th earl of Pembroke. In prose, with occasional verse eclogues and songs.
At end is a separately paged collection of poems, with title "Pamphilia to Amphilanthus", consisting of some 100 sonnets and 20 songs.
With engraved t.p. by Sim. Passoeus, i.e. Simon van de Pass. Johnson: Catalogue of engraved... title-pages to 1691.
Dated in right-hand corner of t.p.
While the ornament on Oo1 belonged to F. Kingston, the woodcut initial letters are not his and probably belonged to A. Mathewes at this time -- STC.
