Description

Second edition.

This edition bears no marks that it is not the first, but 8 lines have been added after "While his Eulogiums crucify thy Fame" (p.3 of original edition) and 10 lines after "Britannia still laments a W---'s Sway" (p.3 of original edition). The line "Here E---ex, A----le (for Senates fit)" (p.10 of original edition) has been altered to "Here E-----e and A-----le (for Senates fit)" (p.11 of extended edition), which is correct if the names Earle and Albemarle are intended. Furthermore, the longer version is followed in a quarto edition, also dated 1733 and bearing W. Dickenson's imprint, "which is pretty certainly a reprint and possibly... a piracy" - I.A. Williams, Points in eighteenth-century verse, 1934, pp.101-102.

A "Part 2" appeared the same year, but is not included in Whitehead's Poems, 1777, or mentioned in the Life prefixed to them.
