Description

P.M. = Pierre Matthieu.

An entirely different translation from STC 17664, published in the same year with the same title but with 154 pages and attributed, probably erroneously, to Philip Messinger. This edition, wrongly described by STC and BM as an abridged version of STC 17664, follows the French text (Paris, 1617) almost literally. The original was supposedly written to represent the rise and fall of Concino Concini, maréchal d'Ancres, assassinated 1617, and his wife, Leonora Dori Galigaï, whereas the expanded STC 17664 is said to have been adapted as a satire on George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham.

Place of publication conjectured by STC.

The first leaf and the last leaf are blank.

Powerfull favorite, or, The life of Ælius Sejanus.

Published in London?.

Indexed in: STC (2nd ed.) 17665.
