Description

With three final advertisement leaves.

According to Ralph's preface, this is the first printing, with a few small changes, of Vanbrugh, Congreve and Walsh's "Squire Trelooby", a version of Molière's comedy first acted in 1704. It is however, possible that the play is derived from J. Ozell's translation, printed anonymously (but not acted) in 1704 under the title "Monsieur de Pourceaugnac, or Squire Trelooby". See J.C. Hodges, "The authorship of Squire Trelooby", R.E.S., vol.4 (1928), p.404 ff.

With 6 pp. of advertisements at end.

Adapted by Vanbrugh from Molière's 'Monsieur de Pourceaugnac'.

This edition is edited by J. Ralph.
