Signatures begin afresh, disregarding gatherings, with the commencement of each new book. Book 2 is signed Aa onwards, Book 3 Aaa onwards, Book 4 Aaaa onwards, Book 5 5A onwards, and the remaining books in like fashion, except that the sixth alphabet begins at 6A3, the first two leaves of the gathering (signed correctly 5F and 5F2) forming the last of Book 5.
