Description

Maquette for 'Hermes', public artwork on exterior of Roger Stevens Building, University of Leeds campus. 'Hermes' was originally commissioned from the sculptor in 1958 by the Midland Bank Overseas Branch for their London offices and installed on a wall of the bank's International Division Building on the corner of Gracechurch and Fenchurch Street in the city of London. In 1983 it was purchased for the University by Stanley Burton, who rescued it from a scrap yard when the Midland Bank sold its City site. Stanley Burton paid for its transfer to Leeds and its installation on the side of the Roger Stevens Building on campus.
