Authorship in doubt. Attributed to both Mary Astell and Judith Drake. cf. F. M. Smith. Mary Astell; S. Halkett and J. Laing. Dictionary of anonymous and pseudonymous English literature. A copy of the first edition sold at auction by Messrs. Sotheby and Co., 25th October 1960, contains a note by Thorn Drury attributing the work to H. Wyatt.
The words "A pendant,.. beau" and "A vertuoso, ... &c." are bracketed together on the title page.
Title page and quire B partly reset and the rest of the text reimposed from the first edition. --ESTC.
