Description

Running title: The second part of Miscellany poems.

Second in a series of miscellanies published by Tonson, 1684-1709, containing many contributions by Dryden, Addison, Pope and Prior. The first appeared under title "Miscellany poems," the 5 later volumes under various titles. The present volume contains translations from Virgil, Lucretius, Theocritus and Horace mainly by Dryden and a long preface by him.

This edition omits 'Nisus & Euryalus', 'The speech of Venus to Vulcan', translations from Lucretius Books 1,3 & 5, and 'Go tell Amynta' (all by Dryden), and adds 'Verses to Rosommon' (whose 'Essay on translated verse...' The third edition is included), 'Cymon & Iphigenia' from the 'Fables', 'A letter...to...Etheridge' and 'Prologue to His Royal Highness.' The other pieces (including the Preface) by Dryden are reprinted.

Edited by Jacob Tonson with some assistance from John Dryden.
