Description
Running title: The second part of Miscellany poems.
Second in a series of miscellanies published by Tonson, 1684-1709, containing many contributions by Dryden, Addison, Pope and Prior. The first appeared under title "Miscellany poems," the 5 later volumes under various titles. The present volume contains translations from Virgil, Lucretius, Theocritus and Horace mainly by Dryden and a long preface by him.
This edition omits 'Nisus & Euryalus', 'The speech of Venus to Vulcan', translations from Lucretius Books 1,3 & 5, and 'Go tell Amynta' (all by Dryden), and adds 'Verses to Rosommon' (whose 'Essay on translated verse...' The third edition is included), 'Cymon & Iphigenia' from the 'Fables', 'A letter...to...Etheridge' and 'Prologue to His Royal Highness.' The other pieces (including the Preface) by Dryden are reprinted.
