Description
Signatures: A-2K⁴.
The titles of the two comedies are bracketed together on the title-page, as are those of the three tragedies.
A reissue of the "Five new plays" published in 1692; this collection, which bore upon its title-page the words "The second edition corrected", was in fact a new edition of the "Four new plays" (q.v.), with "The Duke of Lerma added.
Each play has an individual title-page dated 1692, with imprint: "London, printed for Henry Herringman, and are to be sold by R. Bentley, J. Tonson, F. Saunders and T. Bennet".
"To the reader" contains a discussion of the use of rime in dramatic verse, which occasioned Dryden's Essay of dramatick poesie. Howard replied in the preface to "The great favourite; or, The Duke of Lerma".
"The Indian Queen" is partly by Dryden.
Indexed in: Wing(2nd ed.) H2994.
