Description

Advertisements: p. [7], 1-12 (2nd group), [1]-[2] (2nd group).

Text in six sections, "An imitation of Horace" forming part of the concluding section, "Letters, poems and tales", not, as the general title-page would imply, a section on its own. Each section has a special title-page. In the order of contents "A defence" precedes "The swearer's bank". On the special titles to "The art of punning", "The right of precedence", "A letter of advice" and "The swearer's bank" are the words: "The fourth edition"; the "Letters, poems, and tales" are stated to be of the second edition.

Swift's authorship of "The art of punning" and "The right of precedence" is considered rather doubtful. The "Letters, poems, and tales" ("published from their respective originals, found in the cabinet of... Mrs. Anne Long, since her decease") include pieces not by Swift.

Unathorized edition published by E. Curll.
