Description

Greek text and two Latin translations in parallel columns.

Bèze's fourth and last major editon. Reproduces the text of the third major edition, of 1588, with only two alterations. Differs in 49 passages from R. Stephanus' third editon, of 1550. No other Greek Testament agrees so closely with the text which underlies the English New Testament in King James' Bible.

All mention of place and printer are omitted. Title page bears the device of an olive tree, etc. with the motto: Vide benignitatem ac severitatem Dei. Another issue has statement of printer as given here.

Prefixed are Bèze's dedication to Queen Elizabeth of England, dated 1 Aug., 1598; a preface, dated 1 Aug., 1598; and Index rerum et verborum quæ in annotationibus in evangelistas et Acta Apostolorum continentur. Revelation is followed by Index posterior, and list of errata. Many pages wrongly numbered; numbers 181-188 (1st count) and 509-510 (2nd count) omitted in paging.

Another issue has printer's mark on Jérémie Des Planches on t.-p.

Publishers' device on t.-p.
