Description

Running title: Unhappie prosperitie.

First published in Rouen in 1618 under title Aelius Sejanus, histoire romaine.

Supposed to have been written to represent the rise and fall of Concino Concini, maréchal d'Ancre, assassinated 1617, and of his wife Leonora Dori Galigai.

The first English translation, published under the initials P.M. with title The powerful favorite..., 1628, is said to have been intended as a satire on George Villiers, first Duke of Buckingham. Cf. NUC pre-1956, v. 370, p. 61.

Certain considerations upon the life and services of Monsieur Villeroy is a translation of Matthieu's Remarques d'estat et d'histoire, sur la vie et les services de monsieur de Villeroy.

Signatures: A⁶ B-Z12 2A-2B12 2C⁶.

Pages 69-72 repeated in pagination.

Unhappy prosperity, or, Philippa the Catanian, Observations upon the fall of Seianus, and Considerations upon the life and services of Monsieur Villeroy each has special t.p.

Translator's epistle dedicatory signed Th. Hawkins; Author's dedication signed P. Mathieu.

Engraved frontispiece.

Part-titles counted in the signatures and pagination, except in the case of the "Consideration upon... Villeroy", the part-title to which is apparently not counted in the pagination.
