Political satire, finding Great Britain guilty of starting the American War. Contains many references to the United States, and two speeches supposedly by Benjamin Franklin.
For the attribution to J.H. Marchand, see Georges Andrieux, "Importants livres et manuscrits relatifs aux Amériques... Vente à Paris ... 1934," where the copy cited contains a ms. verse giving his name in the form of an acrostic, followed by the words, "Cherche ici mon nom, cher et zèle lecteur ... et tu trouveras de ce livre le veritable auteur." Barbier, "Dictionnaire des ouvr. anon.," III, p.1050, attributes the work to "Bouffonidor", but adds the following note: "Ce pamphlet a été attribué à tort à S.N.H. Linguet par Peignot et par Ersch; on ne trouve aucun détail sur Bouffonidor; n'est-ce pas un pseudonym? D'apres une note insérée au "Bulletin du Bouquiniste" 1 octobre 1858, p.181, l'ouvrage serait du chevalier Ange Goudar". Entered in the Catalogue of the Bibliothèque Nationale under "Bouffonidor". Attributed to Goudar because of similarities to his other works; the attributions to one Bouffonidor and to Linguet are now discredited."--Echeverria & Wilkie.
