Description

The first gathering appears to consist of 6ff.: the additional engraved title-page; the plate of Juilius Caesar; a3-4 (dedication and commendatory verses); printed title-page; and "Caesaris elogium".


The additional engraved title-page is the second state of the title-page of 1609. See A.F. Johnson, Anon., no.8.


Nine of the plates are printed in folio and folded. In some copies, they are bound as double plates.

"Observations upon Caesars Commentaries of the civil warres betwixt him and Pompey," by Clement Edmondes and "A continuation of the warres in Gallia, beginning where Caesar left, and deducing the history to the time of the civile warres," written by Hirtius Pansa (i.e. Aulus Hirtius) have separate dated title pages; new pagination begins with "Observations"; register is continuous; "The manner of our modern training" (caption title) has separate pagination.
