Formerly generally attributed to Thomas Betterton, but now considered to be by Aphra Behn [cf. Harvard Library bulletin, 1983, article by Milhouse and Hume].

Bridgewater Library copy, with characteristic tract number [ 2 ] in top outer corner of title-page. MS. note, verso of title-page referring ot play's derivation from 'The Dutch courtezan' in archaic hand which may be genuine, but claimed by vendor to be that of John Payne Collier. Cropped by binder, top of title-page and some numbers affected
