Typed transcript of an interview recorded with Mr Ward (June 1971).

Biography or history

Barber, Ernest (1886-?). Born in Sunderland. Joined the RN (Royal Navy) as a Boy Seaman / Petty Officer Boy in 1902, and trained in gunnery. Served on board HMS Diadem during the Russo-Japanese War; during the First World War served on board HMS Sunflower and The Salvadore, at Scapa Flow.
