Description
Contains an elegy by Dryden, "Upon the Death of the Lord Hastings" (p. 88-92), his first published work, written when at Westminster School. In this edition two unnumbered leaves are inserted between pp.42 and 43. They contain Marvell's poem, which occupies pp.77-80 in the first edition.
Inserted between A3 and A4 is a folio leaf folded four times on which is printed Hastings' epitaph composed by Philip Kinder: "Pietati sacrum H.S.E. quod mortale fuit I.N.R.I. praestolans epiphaniam, depositum Henrici Baronis Hastings..." [etc.].
Engraved frontispiece.
Wing B4877; Case 102(b).
Additional description
Wanting A1 (blank) and G4 (blank). In this copy the quarter-sheet of four unnumbered and unsigned pages containing Marvell's poem follows E8 (p. 74) instead of C8 (p. 42). As bound, these leaves supply the place of the missing F1 and F2 which were cancelled. Some leaves repaired.
