Description

Book-list of R. Sare (2 pp.) at end.

Page cxxv (end of the Life) is followed by "Advertisement" for Greek-Latin edition for Millington, 1697, miscatchworded "Marcus".

Verso headlines in the Life read Marcus Antoninus's to p. xvi whereas recto read The life of the emperor to p. xv.

An edition of 1702 with canal title-leaf and vendor William Davies has Gataker and Dacier (p."[13]-"[36]", i-cxxv) and the Advertisement bound between pp. 240 (end of main work) and 241 following the catchword.

Thomas Gataker's preliminary discourse first appeared in his edition and Latin translation of the Meditations (Cambridge, 1652); only the first part of it is included here, translated.

The French original of André Dacier's life (La vie de Marc Aurèle Antonin) first appeared in his Paris 1690-1691 translation of the Meditations.

The Mythological picture, incorrectly attributed to Cebes, is a translation of the anonymous Kebētos Thēbaiou pinax.

Additional description

At end of Preface catchword THE refers to the Life, missing Gataker's discourse, whereas the main work ends on Q8v with catchword GA- and is followed at R1r by the Cebes
