Admiralty letters of appointment (1915-1920; 1925-1943); Examination certificates (1920-1925): Scrapbook (Feb 1915-1919); Diary (Jan-Mar 1919); photograph album 1911-1918; photograph album (1917-1919); photograph album (1915-1919) including Hector, a balloon ship; bundle of 77 photographs (copies); Typed transcript of an interview recorded with Peter Liddle (1973); extensive correspondence and research notes on the Dardanelles campaign and broader naval experience, including the Battle of Jutland and surrender of the German Fleet (1970s). (Photographs include HMS Britannia, HMS Cardiff, HMS Conqueror, HMS Euryalus, balloon ship Hector, HMS Irresistible, HMS Orion, HMS Pommone, HMS Queen Elizabeth, HMS Revenge, SS River Clyde, HMS Tiger, HM Submarine E11).

Biography or history

Boswell, Lennox Albert Knox (1898-?). Born Brentwood, Essex, and entered Royal Naval College, Osborne, in May 1911. He was appointed Midshipman RN (Royal Navy) in 1915, joining the Eastern Mediterranean Squadron and arriving at the Dardanelles on 19 Feb 1915. He served on board HMS Irresistible, and was appointed to HMS Queen Elizabeth in Jul 1915. He was made Sub-Lieutenant in 1917. He was present during the Dardanelles and Gallipoli campaigns (1915), and at the Battle of Jutland (1916). His naval career continued through to the Second World War.
