Description

On the t.p. of the very rare second edition (or reissue?) of 1780 the editor and annotator is identified as Jean-Baptiste Robinet, the translator as Jean-Baptiste Pascal (though Robinet identifies two of the pieces printed here as earlier versions by Diderot and Pierre Coste that he has himself revised with reference to their English originals). The reason for the fictitious imprint is unclear, although the young Robinet had in 1765 and 1766 published at Amsterdam the first two unathorized volumes of Voltaire's correspondence with a Geneva address.

Possibly published in Amsterdam.

Barbier III.694-5; Cioranescu (sv Diderot) 24192 ; Rochedieu p. 292.
