Description

Issued in 61 weekly parts, each with 1 plate, from Oct. 22, 1785, to Dec. 23, 1786. Cf. Bentley.

"Embellished with a great number of beautiful copper plates... from original drawings of the ingenious Messrs. Stothard and Corbould, members of the Royal Academy, and other eminent artists. The whole engraved by the most capital performers, particularly Grignion, Collier, Heath, Tookey, Taylor, &c."

"The plates are the same as those in Kimpton's History [Edward Kimpton's A new and complete universal history of the Holy Bible (1781?)], except that each has an elaborate new border misleadingly labelled at the top 'Engraved for Maynard's Josephus' (only the border was engraved for Josephus), the previous signatures... and titles are [replaced by] new ones ..."--Bentley.
