Description

"La cause morale du ris de Democrite" is translated by Jean Guichard from Hippocrates' Epistolae.

The "Annotacions sur l'orthographie de M. Joubert," ascribed to Christophle de Beauchatel in the caption heading, have been attributed to Joubert himself. Cf. Amoreux, Notice, p. 35.

According to the author's dedicatory epistle, dated Jan. 1, 1579, the main work was originally composed in Latin, its first book was translated by Loys Papon, and its second and third books by Jean Paul Zangmeister. La Croix du Maine adduced evidence that the work was originally composed in French and that the idea of its being translated is a fiction. Cf. P. J. Amoreux, Notice historique et bibliographique sur la vie et les ouvrages de Laurent Joubert, Montpellier, 1814, p. 117-118. The supposed translation of the first book was published in Lyons in 1560 under title: Traité des causes du ris et tous ses accidents.

Error in pagination: no. 95-96 repeated.
