First authorized edition.


The sixth book is paginated continuously but has a separate title-page: "The second journey: containing a survey of... Guernzey and Jarsey ... according to the politic, and formes of government, both ecclesiastical and civill".


3A3 is unsigned.


Another issue (Wing H1737), with cancel title 'A survey of the state of France' and 3A3 signed, appeared in the same year. A pirated edition, also published in 1656, with title 'France painted to the life', preceded both authorized issues.
