Dedication signed: Pat. Sanderson.
A reprint, with additions, of John Davies' "The ancient rites, and monuments of the monastical, & cathedral church of Durham," a work based on an anonymous manuscript of 1593, and published in 1672. Davies' original work was published with considerable changes by Christopher Hunter, in 1733, under title, "Durham cathedral, as it was before the dissolution of the monastry," and this edition was subsequently reissued as the 2d edition under title, "The history of the cathedral church of Durham." The present reprint of Hunter's edition, with additions by Patrick Sanderson, includes "A particular description of the bishoprick, or county palatine, of Durham," (p. 1-135 at end) from Magna Britannia antiqua et nova, by Thomas Cox and Anthony Hall.--Cf. Surtees Society. Publications, v. 107, 1902, p. [ix]-xviii.
