Description
Correspondence and other items sent to Jon Silkin by the poet Ken Smith. Includes 10 typescript letters and 7 ms letters/notes from Smith to Silkin. Letter dated 'Aug 12' [1971?] accompanied by an annotated ts paper by Smith on Silkin's 'Amana Grass;' undated ts letter accompanied by carbon copy/duplicated tss of poems towards Smith's collection 'Work/Distances' (published by Swallow Press, 1972); undated ms letter (black ink) accompanied by cc tss of 38 poems by Smith, originally held in envelope with Smith's photocopied ts 'Anus Mundi' (17 ff); undated ms letter (purple ink) accompanied by Smith's photocopied ts 'The Frog He Would A-Wooing Go ...,' with ms title (?) 'Heavy Traffic;' letter dated 10 January 1994 accompanied by photocopied translations of poems by the Bosnian poet Igor Klikovac (?).Also held with this correspondence, etc., are Smith's cc ts comments on poems sent by Silkin to George MacBeth at the BBC for the radio programme Poetry Now (dated 30/12/65); a copy of 'Makaris,'
vol. 5 no. 7 (24 Nov 1967), featuring Smith's 'The Stone Poems;' and a copy of Smith's 'Island Called Henry the Navigator' (Oak Park, Illinois: Cat's Pajamas Press, 1976), inscribed by Smith to Silkin and Lorna Tracy.
