Description
Correspondence from various at PEN (mainly PEN English Centre) to Jon Silkin, and carbon copy correspondence from Silkin. Includes 5 typescript letters from Maureen Kilroe to Silkin regarding the inclusion of his poems in PEN anthologies; 3 ts letters from Helen Rogers (secretary) to Silkin regarding the inclusion of his poems in PEN anthologies; 1 ts letter from Kathleen Nott to Silkin; and 1 ts letter from Joan Dalin (PEN American Center) to Silkin.Also held in this file are carbon copy ts letters from Silkin to various correspondents, largely in his role as co-editor of the 1960 PEN New Poetry anthology. Includes 9 cc ts letters from Silkin to Maureen Kilroe, and 1 ts letter from Kilroe to Silkin accompanied by tss of John Heath-Stubbs' 'The Cave of the Nymphs' and Philip Larkin's 'The Whitsun Weddings;' 7 cc ts letters from Silkin to Anthony Cronin (also co-editor); 7 cc ts letters from Silkin to Terence Tiller (also co-editor); and 16 cc ts letters from Silkin to prospective
contributors to the anthology. In his letters to contributors Francis Berry, Alexander Baird and W.S. Graham, Silkin also asks for contributions to a proposed 'Poetry and Audience' anthology.
