Description

22 typescript letters, 18 ms letters and 7 postcards/greetings cards from the poet Jon Glover to Jon Silkin; and 3 carbon copy typescript letters from Silkin to Glover. Letter dated 12/2/80 accompanied by the first page only of a carbon copy ts paper, 'Varieties of Perfection: A Comment on Some of Jon Silkin's Recent Ideas and Methods;' undated letter and copy [ca. 1992] accompanied by a photocopied ts paper on 'The Lens Breakers.' 3 letters are accompanied by poems by Glover; there are additionally 3 copy ts/word-processed collections of poems sent from Glover to Silkin including 2 copies of the collection later published as 'Our Photographs' (one of which is inscribed to Silkin and dated 20/11/80), a bound collection with ms title 'The Present Tense' (inscribed to Silkin and Lorna Tracy, and dated 21/3/92; poems later published in 'To the Niagara Frontier'); and a poem headed 'Translations 1 From Jon Silkin.'In addition to Glover's own correspondence, this file hold photocopies of
correspondence between Glover and publishers including Penguin (15 October 1984 - 10 July 1990, the correspondents including Donald Macfarlane, Peter Carson, and Paul Keegan; some letters accompanied by responses to queries, etc.) in relation to 'The Penguin Book of First World War Prose;' Margarate Cannon at Macmillan (3 May 1994), accompanied by an outline for a critical work on First World War literature titled 'Negotiating the Great War;' and Andrew Kirk at Sheffield Academic Press (30 December 1994), accompanied by an outline for a critical study of Jon Silkin.Also held in this file is a photocopied ts of Jon Glover's short article 'Writing at Leeds in the 60s,' dated August 1984.
