Ms and annotated typescript drafts of an essay on David Gascoyne, with Gascoyne's comments in a letter dated 9 September 1981; typescript essay 'Sidney Keyes: the scroll and its distinctions,' and a photocopy of the essay as it appeared in the 'London Magazine' (April-May 1980), with title 'Triumphant Silence: Some Aspects of Sidney Keyes, 1922-1943;' ms, typescript and photocopied drafts of an essay on Keith Douglas; annotated typescript draft of a response to negative accusations against Silkin in the Israeli newspaper 'Yediot' (this reponse published in 'Yediot' on 30 March 1980); ms and typescript drafts of 2 essays on D.H. Lawrence; a copy of Silkin's 'Quick Man: D.H. Lawrence's Poetry,' a review written on the publication of the Penguin collected edition of Lawrence's poems, as it appeared in 'Stand' 23:1 (1981-1982); typescript and carbon copy drafts of the essays 'What Kind of Language is 'That'?,' 'Narrative Distances' [on Lawrence], 'The 'War' Poets' and 'Working at Someone
Else's Poem' [on translating the poetry of Amir Gilboa]; a short typescript obituary for Gene Baro, marked up for the printer, and photocopies of corrected proofs of a brief article on Baro and a list of his publications; an annotated draft of the essay 'Whitman's Parrot,' with ms and typescript notes towards the essay; a carbon copy of a letter in response to David McDuff's comments on Elaine Feinstein's translations of the Russian poet Tsvetayeva, and photocopies of letters in the 'New York Review of Books' (23 September 1982) on the same subject from Dannie Weissbort and David McDuff; and ms and annotated typescript drafts of the essay 'Geoffrey Hill: My Subject Was War and My Pity At It.'Also held in this file is a brief letter from Norman Franklin at Routledge (30 June 1981) concerning a collection of essays on twentieth century poetry proposed by Silkin, and Silkin's ms notes towards acknowledgments and a collection title.
