Description

This series consists of papers relating to Silkin's work on the production of an anthology of modern English poetry for a Japanese audience. Includes Silkin's draft selection and typescript draft commentaries, proofs, a copy of the publishing agreement, and correspondence relating to the anthology. The idea behind the anthology was to provide a volume of modern English poetry suitable for use as a text book with Japanese students in colleges and universities, and also suitable for the common adult reader in Japan. Silkin worked on the anthology with Professors Kyoichi Kawaguchi and Yukio Kato, both of whom were engaged in teaching at Tsukuba University, where Silkin taught in the early 1990s. The anthology as planned was to include original poems selected by Silkin, introductory material and annotations in Japanese by Kawaguchi and Kato, and a commentary by Silkin. The anthology appears not to have been published.
