Description
Typescript and photocopied drafts and copies of 28 poems/sequences published in 'The Lens-Breakers'. Drafts/copies of 'Paying for Forgiveness' include a photocopy of the poem from an unidentified publication. The drafts of 'Civil War Grave, Richmond', include 2 autographed copies. The copy of 'Energy is the Basis of Morals' is titled 'Repenting'. One copy of the sequence 'Thirst' is autographed and dated March 1989 in ms. The copies of 'The Levels' include a photocopy of the poem as published in either the 'Kenyon Review' or 'Staple' magazine. One set of the sequence 'Apparition' is accompanied by copies of the poems 'Abandoned Daughter' (not collected), 'Trying to Hide Treblinka' (dated in ms March 1989), and 'A Soldier Visits Home' (L'étranger) (not collected). The copy of 'Douglas of Sorbie and the Adder' is accompanied by a photocopied of the story 'Douglas Crosby and the Adder', possibly from Alan Temperley's 'Tales of Galloway'. The typescript of 'Gifts' is accompanied by a photocopy
of the poem as it appeared in the 'Kenyon Review'.
