Description
The first edition of this translation (8vo, 1647) bore the title: Sixteen satyrs of, A survey of the manners and actions of mankind.
Ill., dated 1658-1659, engraved by Wencelaus Hollar after Johan Danckerts, Francis Barlow and Robert Streater; frontispiece port. engraved by Pierre Lombart. Plate 9 is found in two states, numbered 9 or 6.
Nos. 271-276 omitted in paging. P.47 is misnumbered 54, and vice-versa.
Each plate is accompanied by a leaf of descriptive letterpress in Latin verse (translated in the text), not included in the paging. The added illustrated engraved t.p. (2pi1) is also accompanied by single leaves of Latin (not included in the collation) and English descriptive letterpress (here designated pi1); these leaves are bound in various orders in surviving copies.
